Texas DisasterLink exists because of one moment โ and the thousands of rural Texans who deserve better than silence when disaster strikes.
On July 4th, 2025, catastrophic floods tore through the Texas Hill Country. Cell towers were destroyed. Power was out. In remote areas of Kerr County, first responders lost all communication โ no way to coordinate rescue, no way to reach command, no way to call for help.
Word spread fast: does anyone have a Starlink they can get here?
Our founder, Richard H. Moreland, sent his. Then he bought ten more. Then he founded Texas DisasterLink.
What started as one person's response to a crisis became a mission: no rural Texas community should ever lose emergency communications because a flood wiped out a cell tower. Volunteer fire departments serving thousands of Texans in remote counties deserve the same connectivity that urban departments take for granted.
In less than a year, Texas DisasterLink has grown from one Starlink in a flood zone to 11 Starlink Mini units coordinating deployment to volunteer fire departments across four Texas counties โ at zero cost to the departments we serve.
Connectivity isn't a luxury during a disaster โ it's the difference between coordinated response and chaos. We believe every first responder deserves reliable communication regardless of where they serve.
Rural Texas counties and volunteer fire departments operate on thin budgets. We provide hardware and service at zero cost to the departments we serve โ funded entirely by grants and donations.
We are a Candid Gold Seal recipient. Every dollar we receive is documented, every deployment is reported, and our financials are publicly available. We earn trust through accountability.
Disasters don't wait. Our model is built for rapid deployment โ devices ready to activate, agreements pre-signed, equipment pre-positioned. When a county calls, we respond in hours not days.
We don't disappear between disasters. Our TDL Connect program keeps devices active at rural stations year-round โ building permanent relationships before the next emergency strikes.
We are a Texas nonprofit serving Texas communities. We understand the geography, the politics, the funding landscape, and the people. This is home โ and we're here for the long run.
Whether you donate, partner, or spread the word โ you're helping keep rural Texas connected when it matters most.
